Context :
Systemic risk in the DRC is high due to the failure of political institutions, growing insecurity in the eastern region, and vulnerability to external shocks. The economy is heavily dependent on fluctuations in commodity prices, and high imports make the national currency highly dependent on US interest rates. Climate fluctuations also pose a threat in a country where the agricultural sector employs 70,000 people.
The company:
SM Guilgal SA is a Tier 3 microfinance institution established in 2012 by the MFI's president. It is registered as a public limited company and supervised by the Central Bank of Congo (BCC).
Impact :
Its mission is to "provide financial and non-financial services to low-income individuals and legal entities in the DRC, particularly small traders, young people (unemployed or not) with bankable projects and farmers (grouped or not) in order to contribute significantly and sustainably to improving their living conditions, while preserving the environment."
